MICHELLE HORTON

OWNER

Michelle Horton’s passion for the cutting and cow horse horse industry was first sparked by her father-in-law, Donald Horton, and his storied program at Strawn Valley Ranch and the legendary sire, Dual Smart Rey. Inspired by that legacy, Michelle founded Ray Shell Ranch as a family-driven, boutique breeding operation alongside her husband Reagan and their children, Douglas and Madeline.

With a deep respect for the industry and a desire to build lasting relationships, Michelle is continually focused on refining their program through thoughtful crosses, superior bloodlines, and a commitment to breeding excellence. At Ray Shell Ranch, the goal is simple: raise exceptional horses with purpose, pride, and integrity.

For the past decade, Hayden has managed a high-intensity grazing cow/calf operation for the Horton family, where he honed his skills in herd management, nutrition, and sustainable grazing practices.

Today, as Ranch Manager at Ray Shell Ranch, Hayden combines his hands-on knowledge of horse breeding, cattle operations, and land management to oversee the daily operations and ensure the continued growth and success of the ranch’s program.

MADELINE HORTON

My journey into the world of cow horse began through ranch versatility competitions with the Stock Horse of Texas, where I was introduced to the NRCHA. From my first experience training and competing in cow horse, I was hooked—and I’ve never looked back.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to achieve several honors, a few of which include:

• AQHYA Reserve World Champion and Bronze

• NRCHA Youth Spectacular Reserve Champion

• Texas High Rodeo State Finalist and Reserve State Champion

• 4th place at the National High Rodeo Finals.

I’m currently a rising senior at the University of Alabama, majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Athletic Training. I serve as a sports medicine aide for the Alabama football team and previously worked with the university’s men’s and women’s tennis programs. Raising and showing horses is more than a passion—it’s about working with these incredible animals to develop elite athletes. There’s something truly special about the bond, the discipline and the growth that comes with producing top-tier in and out of the arena.
